The polarization of laser beams is mostly linear due to the polarizing optical components in the resonator (diagonal deflecting mirror and brewster windows, low high of the resonator in the semiconductor lasers). If all light waves of a laser oscillate in one level, then we speak about a polarized laser. The relation of the light wave in one level to the waves in other levels indicates how strongly a laser is polarized. A polarization of 1:100 means that 1 % of the light waves are oscillating in a different level. The higher the relation, the better the polarization.
